Photos of Azerbaijani nature exhibited among best photos chosen for competition, says naturArt President [EXCLUSIVE]

[ad_1]

Laman Ismayilova

National parks are some of the most awe-inspiring places on
Earth. Whether you’re a nature lover or just looking for a break
from the hustle and bustle of daily life, resting in the lap of
nature is sure to leave you feeling inspired and refreshed.

With its breathtaking views, the national parks in Azerbaijan
and Hungary draw the attention of photographers, who want to
preserve these stunning landscapes and majestic creatures forever,
so that we may experience their beauty and wonder again and
again.

Azerbaijani-Hungarian nature photography showcases some of the
most spectacular sceneries.

Speaking with AZERNEWS, President of the Hungarian
Association of Nature Photographers (naturArt) Péter Fáth, gave a
brief on the association’s activities and shared the details of the
nature photography exhibition organized in Baku.

Q: Can you tell us about the history and main mission of
the Hungarian Nature Photographers’ Association? How has the
organization evolved over time?

A: Hungarian Association of Nature
Photographers (naturArt) has a long history, which spans 31 years.
The association includes 70 members. It is open for everyone, who
can take high-quality pictures and can join us.

Q: How did you come up with the idea to organize a
nature photography exhibition dedicated to national parks of
Azerbaijan and Hungary?

A: This initiative came from the Hungarian
Embassy in Baku, which enjoys strong cooperation with Azerbaijani
partners. The nature is beautiful both in Azerbaijan and Hungary.
You can see it through these photos.

Q: What can you say about any particularly striking or
memorable photos in the exhibition?

A: Well, it is very difficult to choose the
best one. We have been organizing the Nature Photographer of the
Year photo competition for almost 31 year. The exhibition includes
some of the best photo works presented at this competition. If I
had to pick one photo, it would be Csaba Daróczi’s War and Peace.
In 2019, this photo won CEWE Photo Award, known as the world’s
largest photo competition. The photo War and Peace was selected
from over 400,000 photos submitted to the contest.

Q: How do you hope the exhibition will raise awareness
about the importance of protecting national parks and the natural
world?

A: If people see the beauty of nature, then
there will be more people who want to visit national parks. Through
the exhibition, they will be able to see more natural wonders.

Derry photographer’s moon shot in the running for prestigious award

[ad_1]

A Derry photographer is in the running for three prestigious awards for his space pictures.

Patryk Sadowski, from Derry city, has been shortlisted for awards in three categories of the ‘Reach for the Stars’ astrophotography competition run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

Mr Sadowski has three photographs in the competition.

His image ‘Crescent Moon Over Donegal’ has been shortlisted in the ‘Out of this World’ category while two of his images, ‘Poisoned Glen Bridge & Milky Way’ and ‘Manannán mac Lir & Aurora’, have been shortlisted in the competition’s ‘Back on Earth’ category.

While a high-profile judging panel will select the overall winning entries in the coming weeks, an online vote was launched on Monday, so members of the public can also have their say.

Dr. Eucharia Meehan, CEO and Registrar of DIAS, said: “The online public vote to select the winner of the Public Choice Award brings Irish astrophotography to a much wider audience.

“Every year we see a large amount of the public engaging with it and voting for their favourite image. It will be a difficult task for people to choose a favourite from the shortlisted entries – and for the judging panel to select an overall winner.”

Dr Meehan added: “I’m looking forward to seeing the online gallery and what this year’s photographers have captured in our night sky. I’m so impressed by the level of creativity and skill we have amongst photographers in Derry and right across the country.”

Professor Peter Gallagher, also of DIAS, said: “I’m delighted to return for a third year of judging for the ‘Reach for the Stars’ competition. Each year we have seen exceptional standards from Irish astro-photographers. Photographers have shown great creativity and technical skill capturing everything, from stars and galaxies that are millions of light years away to stunning scenery back on earth.”

He added: “We hope the people of Derry will get involved again this year and cast their vote for their favourite image.”

Further information, including the online gallery and background information on the competition, is available here.

40 Confusing Perspective Images Those Will Make You Do A Re-Think

[ad_1]

Confusing perspective images are visual representations that play with the viewer’s perception and challenge their understanding of depth and spatial relationships. These images often employ optical illusions or unusual angles to create a sense of confusion or disorientation.

Here are a few examples of confusing perspective images:

Impossible Objects: These are objects that appear to be three-dimensional but violate the laws of physics. They are usually created through clever manipulation of perspective, making it impossible to determine how the object could exist in reality. The Penrose triangle and the Necker cube are famous examples.

Forced Perspective: This technique uses the manipulation of scale and distance to create an optical illusion. By placing objects or people at specific positions and angles, the artist can make them appear larger or smaller than they actually are. An example of forced perspective is when someone appears to be holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa in a photograph.

Anamorphic Art: Anamorphosis is a technique where distorted images are created, but when viewed from a specific angle or with the help of a reflective surface, they appear in their correct form. Street artists often use anamorphic art to create stunning visual illusions on pavements or walls.

Tilted Rooms: In this type of image, the orientation of the room is altered in a way that challenges our perception of gravity. Walls, floors, and ceilings may be tilted or arranged in unconventional angles, leading to a confusing sense of balance and perspective.

Ambiguous Figures: These images contain visual elements that can be interpreted in multiple ways, depending on the viewer’s perspective. For example, the famous “Rubin’s Vase” optical illusion can be perceived as either a vase or two faces in profile.

Confusing perspective images can be fascinating to explore as they challenge our brain’s ability to interpret visual information. They often demonstrate the power of perception and how easily it can be manipulated.

Scroll down and enjoy yourself. All photos are linked and lead to the sources from which they were taken. Please feel free to explore further works of these photographers on their collections or their personal sites.

The finalist have been revealed for the Nature Photographer of the Year competition

[ad_1]

Now in its 20th year, the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition, produced by the South Australian Museum, searches for the best photographs taken across Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea regions.

The competition is open to photographers of all ages, nationalities and experience levels to submit their best shots.

This year there were 2,182 high-calibre entries from 550 photographers across 10 countries, which have now been narrowed down to 95 images.

Acting director of the South Australian Museum Justine van Mourik said it wasn’t easy for the judges.

“From cute creatures and captivating celestial skies to unflinching scenes that capture the reality of humanity’s impact on nature, the 2023 shortlist showcases a wide variety of images that illustrate the beauty, fragility and power of our natural world,” she said.

“Building on the competition’s sustained growth and popularity over two decades, this year we introduced the well-received Macro category, with photographers submitting incredible larger-than-life-sized images of nature’s smallest scenes.”

On Thursday, 24 August 2023, the South Australian Museum will announce the overall winner, category winners, runners-up and the Portfolio Prize for 2023.

Until then, here’s a look at the shortlisted images in the Animals in Nature category.

Kilkenny astro-photographer chosen for next stage of DIAS astrophotography competition

[ad_1]

A Kilkenny astro-photographer has been chosen for the next stage of the prestigious ‘Reach for the Stars’ astrophotography competition, run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS).

The competition aims to find the best astro-photographs taken in Ireland over the past year.

Karol Ryan, from Kilkenny City, has been shortlisted in the ‘Back on Earth’ category for his image ‘The Sturgeon Moon, Ballycotton Lighthouse’.

“On my second attempt, I successfully captured this image of the full moon rising behind Ballycotton Lighthouse,” notes Karol.

“I had previously been disappointed by the cloudy sky on my first try in July, but this time the weather conditions were perfect. It was a fun experience timing the shutter to capture the light from the lighthouse. The image portrays a beautiful moment in time where the lunar cycle and architecture come together in perfect harmony.”

While a high-profile judging panel will select the overall winning entries in the coming weeks, an online vote was launched today, so members of the public can also have their say.

All shortlisted images can now be viewed on the ‘Reach for the Stars’ website, www.reachforthestars.ie, and members of the public can cast their vote for their favourite image.

There are two categories in the competition: ‘Out of this World’ and ‘Back on Earth’. The ‘Out of this World’ category features images depicting elements of astronomical interest. The ‘Back on Earth’ category features astro-landscape images that depict an element of astronomical interest and elements such as nature, cityscapes, land or water.

The winning images selected by the judging panel and the public vote will be announced in July, and an outdoor exhibition will be staged by DIAS in August to showcase the best images.

Alongside the Public Choice Award for the winner of the online public vote, the overall winners and runners-up will be chosen by the judging panel for ‘Reach for the Stars’, which includes: Professor Peter Gallagher, Head of Astrophysics at DIAS; Brenda Fitzsimons, Picture Editor of The Irish Times; John Flannery, Vice-President of the Irish Astronomical Society; and Niamh Breathnach, Director, Alice Public Relations.

“The online public vote to select the winner of the Public Choice Award brings Irish astrophotography to a much wider audience,” said Dr Eucharia Meehan, CEO and Registrar of DIAS.

“Every year we see a large amount of the public engaging with it and voting for their favourite image. It will be a difficult task for people to choose a favourite from the shortlisted entries – and for the judging panel to select an overall winner.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the online gallery and what this year’s photographers have captured in our night sky. I’m so impressed by the level of creativity and skill we have amongst photographers in Kilkenny and right across the country.”

Also commenting today, Professor Peter Gallagher of DIAS said: “I’m delighted to return for a third year of judging for the ‘Reach for the Stars’ competition. Each year we have seen exceptional standards from Irish astro-photographers. Photographers have shown great creativity and technical skill capturing everything, from stars and galaxies that are millions of light years away to stunning scenery back on earth.

“We hope the people of Kilkenny will get involved again this year and cast their vote for their favourite image.”

Votes for the Public Choice Award are restricted to one vote per person, and voting will close at midday on Monday, June 26.

DIAS’s ‘Reach for the Stars’ competition is being run in partnership with The Irish Times and is sponsored by Alice Public Relations. The Irish Astronomical Society are initiative supporters.

Telescopios virtuales online – Cielos Boreales

[ad_1]

telescopios virtuales online de World Wide Telescope

Is this gun-style camera rig the WORST idea in the history of photography?

[ad_1]

null

© Stockcam
null

Crowd-funded projects mix excitement – because they can represent genuine innovation – and frustration – because things take a long time to make it from idea to reality. They don’t usually present the chance to get you shot, but this one, by Stockcam, definitely does!

• You could consider a stabilizer with camera controls like the Ronin RS3 Mini.

The offering is available for early birds at Indegogo, but Stockcam has also created a page to look for early enthusiasts for the gun-shaped camera cage.

OK, we can see some conceivable advantages to the design when it comes to holding the camera steady with the shoulder rest, and there are places for fill lights or microphones to easily be attached. There are mounts for a couple of lenses in the adjustable shoulder rest, There is even a tripod mount.

It might even actually make a lot of sense. After all, guns are designed to be steady when aiming. Guns, though, tend to be associated with another purpose, and here is where we run into a problem. One heavily exaggerated by the Stockcam campaign images which don’t exactly steer away from the soldier look!

Size-wise, the ‘gun’ is 500mm long, a similar length to the legendary AK-47 popular with terrorists (at least in 80s movies), rather than the longer but more accurate M4 that US soldiers use today, which is about twice as long again.

That makes sense – here the ‘scope’ (or camera) is the key component, and the butt provides the stabilizing element resting on the photographer’s body. The thing is, through the eyes of a nervous law enforcer, will that be obvious? Or will it cause panic in public places? It looks very gun-like, and a slightly chunky-looking scope isn’t dissuade a nervous officer (and people get nervous when you wave a ‘gun’ around).

In the US alone, law enforcers shot and killed 1,097 people in 2022 – a trend that is steadily rising. That’s just the police. What about worried folk trying to protect their property? We live in a time of heightened concern and there are plenty of armed citizens in some countries, including the US.

Holding this in your hands is essentially handing someone an excuse to walk away from a 2nd-degree murder (manslaughter) inquiry with no punishment. In 2014 at 12-year-old boy, Tamir Rice, was shot by a police officer because he had a toy gun. There were other aspects, but in the inquiry it was noted that the toy didn’t have an ‘orange tip’ that would make it easy for the police officer to see that it was a toy.

Guess what, nor does the Stockcam. In fact, it is needlessly gun-like. Instead of a safety switch, it has a similar switch to choose focus modes. The shutter is, of course, connected to a trigger. And it is called “Fun and engaging” by its designers. That just feels a bit wrong.

So it’s a tool, being marketed a bit like a toy, that might get you shot. Still, I bet it feels somehow more powerful and important to hold it than a traditional rig!

By all means, give it some thought, or be proud to be a photographer and choose something from our best camera rigs guide.

Photo Shows A Still Buried Mammoth Mountain, California

[ad_1]

Here’s something that, if you’ve paid any attention to skiing news over the past few months, you probably already know: Mammoth Mountain, California, received an absurd amount of snow this winter. And to us at Powder, that’s worth celebrating.

But what does absurd winter snowfall actually look like as we move into the warmer months? Well, this. Check out June Lake Brewing’s recent Instagram upload, which shows an aerial photo of Mammoth Mountain taken by Sergio Gonzalez.

June Lake Brewing/Sergio Gonzalez

June Lake Brewing/Sergio Gonzalez

Wild, wild stuff.

Mammoth Mountain currently has a whopping 97 inches of snow, or about 8 feet, at its base area. Over the winter, the resort saw a record 715 inches of snow at the main lodge.

Due to its deep summer snowpack, Mammoth plans to remain open to skiers into July, weather and conditions permitting. Palisades Tahoe, another Californian resort, is also still offering lift-accessed skiing after a record winter.

Is it fair that Mammoth’s still buried in snow while other resorts throughout North America have been closed for months? Not really. But as a skier, you’ve got to accept that Mother Nature’s fickle when it comes to snowfall distribution.

Sometimes you’re the one getting pitted. Other times, you’re watching others get pitted from afar, hoping that your chance to enter the white room comes with the changing seasons.
